Three people are dead and two are wounded following an early morning shooting at McBride Lumber, off of old U.S. Hwy. 220, just north of Star.
WFMY News 2 reports that Montgomery County Sheriff Dempsey Owens said the suspect entered a warehouse at McBride Lumber around 6:00 a.m. and began shooting at co-workers. Three died at the scene, and a fourth victim was airlifted to Chapel Hill for treatment.
The shooter fled the scene, but other co-workers identified him and deputies went to his home, where they found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was also flown to the hospital for treatment.
Sheriff Owens says a note was found at the scene, but he did not reveal details.
Names of the victims have not been released, but reports indicated they are all male. Sheriff Owens says his department is treating this as a workplace violence situation.
