Authorities have arrested a Montgomery County Schools guidance counselor and charged him with sex offenses involving a minor student.
Last night, officers with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department arrested Shawn Day, who was employed by Montgomery County Schools in September 2010 and served as a guidance counselor, assistant varsity football coach and girls soccer coach at West Montgomery High School.
Day has been charged with solicitation of a child by computer and sex offense with a student, both felonies.
The charges stem from allegations made by a West Montgomery High School student, and Day resigned his position with the school system yesterday. Montgomery County Schools made the initial investigation and referred the matter to the Sheriff’s Department.
A statement released by the school system said extensive background checks are performed on all employees and coaches as a part of regular procedures.
