Pinehurst Man Dies in Motorcycle Wreck

A Pinehurst man died yesterday in a motorcycle accident in Randolph County. 59-year-old John William Yates was riding with about a dozen friends to Morrow Mountain State Park when the accident occurred.

North Carolina State Trooper B. H. Pike told media that Yates stuck a highway sign and a bridge railing on the opposite side of the N.C. Hwy. 42, near the Grantville community, a few miles from the North Carolina Zoo. Yates was ejected from his 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and died at the scene.

Public records show that Yates also owned a home in the Badin Shores Resort in Montgomery County.
