Town Creek Indian Mound will bring in winter with an astronomy program this Friday night.
With a lot of interest in the Mayan calendar this week, Town Creek Site Manager Rich Thompson says the program will include viewing of “many of the celestial waypoints the Maya used to develop their intricate calendar”.
The Town Creek State Historic site has been recognized as one of the last great dark-sky sites in the Piedmont. Viewers are welcome to bring their own binoculars and telescopes to the event, and there will be a scope available, along with warm refreshments in the museum.
The Astronomy Night program starts Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. and is free to the public, but registration is required in advance. Information and registration are available online at http://www.towncreekindianmound.com or by phone at 910-439-6802.
