A Martin Luther King, Jr. banquet will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 at the James Garner Center in Troy. The guest speaker is Harry Brower, who works with the North Carolina Employment Security Commission and is an active member of the Minority Male Mentoring program. This is the second year for the banquet, which is sponsored by Biscoe Masonic Lodge 794, the Montgomery County NAACP and the Sunnyside Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Biscoe. The public is invited. There is a $10 charge for dinner, and volunteers are welcome to help with the event. More information is available at 910-975-1564.
Also this year, the Human Services Program at Montgomery Community College is sponsoring the local MLK Day of Service on Monday. The national initiative is intended to honor the legacy of Dr. King by turning a day off work into a day of service to neighbors and the greater community. All are invited to be involved in the local effort, and more information is available from Montgomery Community College at 910-576-6222, extension 207.
