Highway Improvements Planned at 109 & 73 in Mount Gilead

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is planning some improvements to the intersection of state Highways 109 and 73 in Mount Gilead. The growth of traffic volume continues to increase problems at the junction, especially for trucks trying to make right-hand turns.

The preliminary plan calls for moving several utility poles at the intersection and taking a small amount from each corner lot to increase the surface area of the road.

Mount Gilead Town Manager Katrina Tatum has been working with DOT District Engineer Kevin Hedrick to finalize the plans. No timeline has been established for the project.
