Today is court day for a former Montgomery County Schools principal.
On January 14, 55-year-old John Ward was charged with indecent liberties with a student, a felony, and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, a misdemeanor. During a ten-year career with Montgomery County Schools, Ward had been a band director, assistant principal and principal, and was most recently working as the system’s transportation director.
Last month, Lieutenant Detective Kelley Howell of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office told media that Ward admitted to having engaged in sexual acts with a 16-year-old student during his tenure as principal of the Montgomery Learning Academy in Troy, though he said the incidents took place off-campus. The student was reported to have had a child, but it is not clear if Ward is the father.
John Ward resigned from the schools on the day of his arrest, and he is scheduled on today’s docket at the Montgomery County Courthouse.
