March Is National Nutrition Month

March is National Nutrition Month, and this year’s theme is “Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day.”

Family and Consumer Sciences Agent Hayley Napier of the Montgomery Cooperative Extension says this year’s goal is to encourage personalized healthy eating styles. She say the goal recognizes that food preferences, lifestyle, cultural and ethnic traditions, and health concern all impact individual food choices.

Napier said, “It really boils down to the idea that one size or one plan DOES NOT fit all when it comes to nutrition.”

This year marks the 40th anniversary of National Nutrition Month, and Napier encourages local residents to start setting some new goals, maybe cutting back on sugary drinks, eating more fruits and vegetables, or downsizing meal portions.

The North Carolina Cooperative Extension is working with youth to increase nutrition education in the schools and they plan to offer opportunities for everyone in order for Montgomery County citizens to get on board with being healthy. For more information, contact Hayley Napier at 910-576-6011.
