“No Need 2 Speed” Campaign Underway in North Carolina

The Governor’s Highway Safety Program is teaming up with law enforcement agencies across North Carolina for this week’s “No Need 2 Speed” campaign.

programs_ghsp_initiatives_noneed_largeProgram Director Becky Wallace said speeding is one of the main cause of crashes and fatalities on North Carolina’s roads, and was a factor in 399 deaths last year.

“We are all busy and we all have places to be,” said Wallace. “That extra couple of minutes you might save isn’t worth your life or the life of a loved one – slow down and obey the speed limit.”

Law enforcement will be out in full force to cite speeders through this Sunday. Officers will focus their efforts on all roads, including interstates, major highways, country two-lane road and city streets.

A similar emphasis last year resulted in more than 13,000 speeding citations issued by state and local law enforcement agencies.
