UPDATE, 3:41 p.m.: Sheriff Owens says the investigation shows no traumatic injury, but a determination of the cause of death will not be made until after an autopsy Friday. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until out-of-state relatives are notified.
At midday, Montgomery County Sheriff’s detectives are continuing their investigation into a death at a residence on Lilly’s Bridge Road at Edenboro Road. Officers responded to the call around 8:00 a.m. today.
Sheriff Dempsey Owens told WMTG, “We responded to a deceased person laying in the side ditch, and we’re investigating it as a homicide. Right now, we’re just trying to get everything together and figure out what we need.”
The investigation of the death as a homicide is protocol while officers continue to work to determine exactly what happened.
“I know we’ve got a deceased person,” said Owens. “(There is) no information as to whether it is natural causes, suicide or homicide, but we’re going to treat it as a homicide. We’ll get everything scheduled as far as an autopsy and things, and we’ll go from there.”
The identity of the deceased has not been released. A cause of death has not been determined, but investigators will treat it as a homicide for now.
