Drug Case Continued, Suspect Remains Jailed

We’re continuing to follow the story of a drug bust last week in Mount Gilead.

As of this morning, 28-year-old Richard Lee Greene of E. Allenton St. in still in the Montgomery County Jail. He had a court date yesterday, but Mount Gilead Police Chief Cleve Willoughby says the case was continued.

Original reports said officers found Greene in possession of methamphetamine, but the new court calendar shows the charges are actually possession of and trafficking in methylenedioxypyrovalerone, known legally by the abbreviation “MDPV”, and commonly called “bath salts”.

Mount Gilead Police and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration were involved in the Apr. 10 search that resulted in Greene’s arrest. Public court records show Greene is scheduled for court again on May 21.
