In Anson County, deputies yesterday arrested the second suspect in a crime spree that led authorities on a four-county chase.
Robert Lamar Smith was arrested in Morven after officers had searched for him over the weekend.
Smith and Jarvis Marsh are believed to have committed a home invasion in Charlotte, then assaulted and stole a vehicle from a mother and son in Midland.
Authorities stopped the pair and exchanged gunfire with them near the Stanly County Fairgrounds south of Albemarle. They believe Robert Smith was the man who fled that scene on foot and eluded officers for the next few days.
Deputies say Jarvis Marsh fled the scene in a car and was arrested after he crashed it on U.S. Hwy. 52, near the Rocky River south of Norwood.
Smith is due in court today in Cabarrus County on first-degree kidnapping charges. He also has a court date Thursday in Charlotte on charges of robbery and second-degree kidnapping in the home invasion case.
Jarvis Marsh is due in court again on May 30 in Cabarrus County.
