Local authorities this weekend helped capture the suspect in a Rowan County murder investigation.
Sources tell WMTG they saw deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol among the law enforcement officers searching for Wayne Eugene Hill early Sunday morning near Swift Island. The 55-year-old Hill reportedly wrecked his car and fled on foot, prompting a search that focused on the wooded area between N.C. Hwy. 24/27 and Lemons Rd., a short dirt road across from the boat landing near the Garrison Bridge.
Rowan County authorities have charged Hill will first degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, 48-year-old Roxanne Maddry. Reports say Maddry died Saturday night as the result of blunt force trauma.
At last check, Wayne Hill was being held without bond in the Rowan County Jail.
