Rev. Jim Harris yesterday preached his final sermon as full-time pastor of First United Methodist Church in Mount Gilead and Zion United Methodist Church at Pee Dee.
Harris served the churches for 18 years, an unusually long tenure in the structure of the United Methodist Church. A worship service honoring his retirement was held May 18.
The churches’ new pastor will be Rev. Lee Edwards, who comes to Mount Gilead after serving five years at Ahoskie United Methodist Church in the northeastern corner of North Carolina. Edwards is a graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College and received his Masters of Divinity at Duke. He and his wife, Tanya, have two children.
The churches will welcome Lee Edwards with an ice cream social on Fri. evening, Jun. 28, and a covered dish luncheon following worship on Sun., Jun. 30.
