According to Relay co-chair Angie Sasser, 29 teams raised a total of $70,500 this year, beating their county goal of $67,000. The money helps support research and recovery programs through the American Cancer Society.

Sasser said, “Churches that participated were some of our top fund raising teams.” She and event co-chair Candy Sheryn hope more local churches will become involved in the annual effort.

“There was 100% participation from the county’s public schools,” said Sasser, “and that is a huge achievement.”

The planning committee is already looking for more teams and more children’s activities for next year’s Relay for Life. Information on becoming involved is available at 910-572-7267.
