Authorities in Rowan County have arrested a former Albemarle youth pastor on charges of inappropriate sexual conduct with female members of a church near Salisbury.
36-year-old Torrey Joe Morgan was charged with felonies including two counts of indecent liberties with a child, second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and disseminating harmful material to a minor under 16. He was also charged with misdemeanor disseminating harmful material to a minor under 18.
According to information released by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan had been serving as a youth leader at High Rock Community Church on Bringle Ferry Rd. near Salisbury. According to its website, High Rock Community Church operates eight campuses, including one in Albemarle. The Stanly News & Press reports that Morgan was previously a youth pastor at North Albemarle Baptist Church.
Morgan was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond. The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office continues to gather details regarding the case and asks anyone with information to contact 1st Lt. Chad Moose at 704-216-8687.
