Filing Continues for Municipal Elections this Fall

Filing continues today for this fall’s municipal elections in North Carolina.

130705_Vote_ButtonIn Montgomery County, 10 candidates filed Friday, which was the opening day of the two-week filing period. Among them:

From Mount Gilead…

  • Chip Carter has filed to run for Town Commissioner.
  • Commissioner Branson Webb is expected to file for reelection.
  • Commissioner Tim McAuley is said to be undecided about running again.
  • Mayor Patty Almond is expected to file for reelection, and no others have confirmed intentions to challenge her.

From Troy…

  • Mayor Roy Maness and Commissioners Bruce Hamilton and James Hurley have filed for reelection.
  • Commissioner Angela Elkins has announced her intention to file for reelection as a Troy Town Commissioner, but has not yet filed.

From Candor…

  • Commissioner Phillip Hearne has filed for the office of Mayor; Hearne’s term as Commissioner is expiring, and current Mayor Richard Britt had indicated earlier that he is undecided about running for reelection.
  • Commissioner Layton Booker has also filed for reelection.
  • Frank Harris has filed to run for Commissioner in Candor.
  • Commissioner Tim Privett has said he is leaning toward running for reelection.
  • Commissioner Tim Smith said he will run for reelection, but had not filed by the end of the day Friday.

From Biscoe…

  • Mayor Mike Criscoe is not seeking reelection, and current Commissioner Jimmy Blake has filed to run for Mayor (Blake’s term as Commissioner is expiring).
  • Terms are expiring for Commissioners Jimmy Cagle & Gene Anderson, who have announced their intentions to run for reelection.
  • On Friday, Sammy Price and Eddie Reynolds filed to run for Biscoe Town Commissioner.

In Star…

  • Mayor Susan Eggleston is not running for reelection, and no candidate for Mayor has come forward.
  • Terms are expiring for Commissioners Alice Clemens, Jennifer Fountain & Richard Hinson. Hinson is not running again; Clemens & Fountain have said they will run for reelection, but had not filed as of the end of the day Friday.

WMTG will continue to provide updated information as it becomes available through the remainder of the filing period, which closes at 12:00 noon on Fri., July 19.
