Noon today marks the halfway point in the two-week candidate filing period for this fall’s municipal elections in North Carolina. In Montgomery County, terms are expiring for every mayor and at least some commissioners of all five towns.
Looking at mayoral candidate filing…
In Star, Susan Eggleston is not running for reelection, and no candidate has filed for the office. In Biscoe, Mike Criscoe is not seeking reelection, and Town Commissioner Jimmy Blake has filed to run for mayor. In Candor, Mayor Richard Britt has said he is undecided about another run, but Town Commissioners Phillip Hearne has filed as a candidate for mayor. In Troy, Roy Maness has filed for reelection. And in Mount Gilead, Mayor Patty Almond has not filed for reelection, but is expected to do so. As of 5:00 p.m. Thursday, no one else had filed to run for mayor of Mount Gilead.
On the Mount Gilead Town Board, terms are expiring for Branson Webb and Tim McAuley. Webb has filed for reelection, and McAuley says he remains undecided. Citizens Chip Carter and James Shuman have also filed to run for Town Commissioner in Mount Gilead.
We are providing daily reports about municipal filings on the air and on our website. After the Board of Elections office closes for business each day, we are posting an updated candidates list at http://www.wmtg.org.
Municipal filing continues through 12:00 noon on Fri., July 19, and the non-partisan general election will be held Nov. 5.
