Four people were injured today in a two-vehicle wreck near Mount Gilead.
Earlier reports misidentified the location of wreck, which was actually on Hwy. 731 near Tillery Dam Rd.
Montgomery County Emergency Services Director Corey Roberts said, “We responded to a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. 731. – a tractor trailer versus a pickup truck.”
“We transported four patients out of that wreck. Three were airlifted to CMC (Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte), and one was transported per ground to Stanly Medical (Albemarle).”
Roberts said the highway was shut down while helicopters landed and loaded patients for transporting to the hospital.
“Emergency service personnel closed down Hwy. 731 for a period of time because we were landing helicopters and to keep responders safe,” said Roberts. “We landed helicopters from UNC, CMC and from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Each one took a different patient, but they were all transported to CMC.”
The identities and conditions of those involved in the accident were not immediately available.
“The HP is investigating the wreck,” Roberts said, “and they’ll be the ones to determine the cause and have patient information.”
