Here’s some of what we’re talking about on the air today…

– The Montgomery County Cooperative Extension is planning to offer a ServSafe food safety course in September. .. Extension agent Hayley Napier announced yesterday that the course will be conducted September 9-11 in Troy. She encouraged food service managers needing to renew their certification to register by the early-bird deadline of Monday, August 26. .. The ServSafe food safety training curriculum is produced by the National Restaurant Association, which says more than 4 million foodservice professional have been certified through the program. .. More information is available locally from the Cooperative Extension office in Troy, or by phone at 910-576-6011.

– The Montgomery County Farmers Market will be open today in Troy. The market features fresh, local meats and vegetables, along with a variety of other handmade items. Information we’ve received from the market says they’ll have plenty of cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, cabbage and okra today, along with lots of other vegetables, peppers, swiss chard, and fresh-cut herbs, pasture-raised pork, assorted goat cheeses, breads and homemade peach and blueberry pies. There will also be cut flowers and a range of hand-crocheted items today. The Montgomery County Farmers Market is open Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 6:30 on N. Main St. next to the old hotel in Troy.

– Mount Gilead’s downtown merchants will host an evening of shopping, music and more with “Christmas in July”, this Friday, 5 to 9 p.m., at Mount Gilead Florist, The Vintage, This & That, Hot Dog Heaven, Brown’s Hardware, Piedmont Center for the Arts, and Mount Gilead Antiques, all open late this Friday in historic downtown Mount Gilead.

– There will be Christian rock music Saturday night at the Cedar Plantation. Caleb’s Bridge and Brad Ratledge will be in concert starting at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Cedar Plantation is on N. Main St. in Troy. .. Also this weekend, Sons of the South will play bluegrass music at the Mount Gilead Music Barn, Saturday night at 7:30.
