Authorities release identity of ATV accident victim

TROY, N.C. – We now know the identity of the young man who died yesterday in an all-terrain vehicle accident near Troy.

Det. Craig Cloninger of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Brenton Christopher Austin of Stanfield was killed while riding the ATV in a wooded area off Saunders Rd., just southwest of the Troy town limit. Saunders Rd. is a 2.4 mile road that connects N.C. Hwy 24/27 to Pekin Rd.

It was not immediately clear who owns the land where Austin was riding or if he has relatives in the area.

Cloninger said some test results are pending at the state lab in Raleigh, but no foul play is suspected. If there are any further developments, we’ll bring you an update in the coming days.
