The Mount Gilead Concerned Citizens and Community Watch and local law enforcement will host the “National Night Out” tonight.
This is the seventh year for the local National Night Out program, first observed 30 years ago as an effort to heighten crime prevention awareness, to generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and to send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
According to figures from the National Association of Town Watch, over 37.5 million people in more than 15,700 communities participated in the National Night Out last year.
The Mount Gilead Concerned Citizens and Community Watch are headed up by Johnny Greene, and the group encourages all area residents to join in this year’s National Night Out, beginning at 6 PM in Dr. McKinnon’s parking lot on N. Main St. More information is available from Town Hall at 910-439-5111.
In the event of rain, the National Night Out will be held at the pavilion behind First United Methodist Church on Main St.
