Families, educators prepare for start of school

Families and educators alike are gearing up for the start of the new school year, which begins one week from Monday in Montgomery County.

130816_Back_to_SchoolThe Montgomery County Back-to-School Rally is tomorrow. Students and their families from all over the county are invited to come out to the rally, which will offer free food, free haircuts for kids, and some free school supplies, along with some inspiring speakers and entertainment. Administrators say there will also be lots of information about what’s coming in the year ahead.

The back-to-school rally is organized by the Montgomery County Schools and will start Sat., Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. at West Montgomery High School, and the event will take place rain or shine.

In preparation for the return of students, teachers have an optional workday Tuesday, then required workdays Wednesday and Thursday.

Fall athletic teams have been practicing, and WMTG will be broadcasting West Montgomery High School football again this year. John Inman will have the play-by-play starting with the first regular season game, Fri., Aug. 23, at 7 p.m.

WMTG will also broadcast a weekly West Montgomery coach’s show with Jackie Morris. That program will begin next week, and will likely air on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
