Montgomery County Schools restart one week from today

Montgomery County public school students report back to class one week from today, and final preparations are being made for their return.

130816_Back_to_SchoolTeachers have an optional workday tomorrow, then required workdays Wednesday and Thursday.

Open house events are also scheduled for this week. Both middle schools will have open house Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m., and the high schools will host events Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Open houses continue Thursday, first at Montgomery Learning Academy Thu. from 2 to 4 p.m., then at Candor, Green Ridge, Star and Troy Elementary Thu. from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., and Mount Gilead and Page Street Elementary Schools Thu. from 4 to 6 p.m.

As we reported earlier, the school system has also redesigned bus routes to use community and corner stops to pick up multiple students at one location. Letters have been sent to families, and more information is available from local schools or the county office at 910-576-6511.

Fall athletic teams have been practicing, and WMTG will be broadcasting West Montgomery High School football again this year. John Inman will deliver the play-by-play starting with the first regular season game versus Marvin Ridge this Friday at 7 p.m. We will also broadcast a weekly West Montgomery coach’s show with Jackie Morris. That program will air during our 1 and 5 p.m. news blocks on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the season.
