Investigators in Cumberland County are still looking for clues in a weekend robbery that resulted in the death of a Rockingham man.
The Richmond Daily Journal reported that 27-year-old Errol Williams was confronted at a Fayetteville convenience store around 4:45 a.m. Sunday by three men who robbed him and forced him to drive away from the store. Authorities told the paper that Williams was shot and killed when he tried to run away from the men.
Published reports say officers consider Williams “an innocent victim” with no prior ties to the robbers.
Surveillance video from the store shows the suspects leaving the store in a silver Kia Sportage. The video was obtained by Fayetteville Police before the suspects returned to the store later Sunday and allegedly robbed two more customers and stole the surveillance system itself.
Anyone with information is asked to report it to local law enforcement at 911.
