Authorities arrest one, seek two in murder of Rockingham man

Authorities in Fayetteville continue their investigation into the weekend murder of a Rockingham man.

News 14 Carolina reports that public tips helped investigators identify and issue arrest warrants for three suspects believed to have killed 27-year-old Errol Williams of Rockingham after accosting him at a Fayetteville convenience store early Sunday morning.

One of the three suspects, Eric Phillips, was in custody late yesterday. At last check, police were continuing to look for the other two, Kelly Elliott and Anthony Porter.

Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock told reports his department believes the trio “are responsible for numerous armed robberies and other crimes in … Cumberland County and, perhaps, all of the eastern part of North Carolina.”

Information about this crime should be directed to law enforcement at 911.
