Law enforcement officers in Anson County will soon step up efforts to combat gang activity there.

The Anson Record reports that the county sheriff’s office has received a $10,000 state grant to help fund a “gang abatement” program, and the funds have been been matched dollar-for-dollar by local businessman David Jones of Waste Connections.

Anson Sheriff Tommy Allen told the paper the funds will be available for use by his department starting Oct. 1.
