Stanly County students shaken in collision involving bus

Some Stanly County students were shaken up Tuesday when the bus they were riding was hit from behind by another driver.

130806_School_Bus_Blue_Bird_CROPThe bus from Albemarle High School was traveling on U.S. Hwy 52 near the intersection of Carolina Ave. near Don Montgomery Park when the driver of a Dodge Durango struck the bus. Reports say the front of the Durango showed some damage from the impact, but the bus was not hurt badly.

Stanly County Schools Assistant Superintendent Sandra Carter told media the bus was stopped at the time of the accident.

A student on the bus told reporters the impact caused several students to be thrown forward, but there were no reports of serious injury.

There was no immediate word about charges against the driver of the Durango.
