Former Montgomery Co. detention officer due in court Nov. 4

A former Montgomery County detention officer remains in custody in Pitt County awaiting his next court appearance.

28-year-old Jonathan Dewayne Brooks was arrest Sept. 18 and charged with murder in the death of his five-month-old son. The arrest followed the Pitt County medical examiner’s finding that the child’s fatal head injury was not accidental.

Brooks was scheduled to appear in Pitt County Superior Court Oct. 3, but information from the state Administrative Office of the Courts shows the case has been continued to Nov. 4. Meanwhile, Brooks remains incarcerated in the Pitt County Detention Center in Greenville, where his bond was set at $2 million.

Jonathan Brooks is a 2004 graduate of West Montgomery High School and was a detention office with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office from November 2010 to January 2012.
