Renowned bluegrass musician Larry Sparks will be in town this weekend to play a concert at the Mount Gilead Music Barn.
Larry Sparks began his music career in the mid-1960s as a guitarist with the legendary Stanley Brothers, and he was later the lead vocalist for Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys.
In 1969, he formed Larry Sparks & the Lonesome Ramblers, and since then has toured for more than 40 years, released over 60 albums, and performed on the Grand Ole Opry, Austin City Limits and other shows. Larry Sparks has also been recognized as the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Male Vocalist of the Year, and has recorded with Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs and Tom T. Hall.
A 50th anniversary CD is due out this spring, featuring collaborations with bluegrass legends Ralph Stanley, Curly Seckler, Bobby Osborne, Jesse McReynolds and others.
