Staff at the North Carolina Zoo near Asheboro have been busy removing a number of trees that fell during last Friday’s icy weather.
Randolph County was along the southern edge of the winter storm system that downed trees and cut power to thousands in the northern Piedmont, and the zoo lost a number of trees, many of which blocked visitor walkways and service roads.
Officials said no animals or exhibits were damaged.
After being closed to the public through Mar. 10 while crews cleaned up the debris, the zoo announced it would reopening Mar. 11, but still cautioned visitors to watch for tree limbs that remain near sidewalks in some exhibit areas.
The zoo’s regular winter hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week.
