Town Creek Under the Stars will offer local astronomy buffs another opportunity to view the night sky this weekend. The popular series takes place at Town Creek Indian Mound, the state historic site just east of Mount Gilead.
Town Creek has been described as one of the best dark-sky viewing locations in North Carolina, and Town Creek Under the Stars has become popular among stargazers of all experience levels. Site manager Rich Thompson says this is the best time to view Mars, which “will be at its biggest and brightest for the year.”
Town Creek staff say another highlight of the evening will be the Hyades star cluster. Participants are invited to bring their own binoculars and telescopes, and a scope will be available onsite.
This week’s installment of Town Creek Under the Stars will be Sat., Apr. 5, from 8 to 10 p.m. More information is available at 910-439-6802 or online at http://www.towncreekindianmound.com.
