Eight candidates running for two local offices are expected to participate in a forum tonight in Mount Gilead.
Organizers of the meet-the-candidates event say all those registered to run for Montgomery County Sheriff and Clerk of Superior Court have agreed to participate. That includes current Sheriff Dempsey Owens and his primary opponents, Democrats Becky Wallace and Maury Bowden, and Republicans Terry Wells and Chris Watkins, who are vying for their party’s spot on the November ballot.
For Clerk of Superior Court, incumbent Republican John Deaton does not have a primary election opponent, but Democrats Kay Robinson and Edgar Morris are competing in the primary for the right to face Deaton in the general election.
Tonight’s meet-the-candidates program is sponsored by Mount Gilead Concerned Citizens and will start at 7 p.m. in the Leah Levin Auditorium in Mount Gilead. All are welcome.
The program will be rebroadcast Sunday at 8 p.m. on WMTG, and we will make the audio available later on our website at http://www.wmtg.org. To see the full list of candidates in races involving Montgomery County, click here to visit our “Decision 2014” page.
