It’s primary election day in North Carolina. Voters are choosing partisan candidates for this fall’s elections.
Locally, much attention is focused on the race for Montgomery County Sheriff, where Democrats are deciding between incumbent Sheriff Dempsey Owens and challengers Maury Bowden and Becky Wallace. Republicans are deciding between candidates Chris Watkins and Terry Wells.
In the primary election for Montgomery County Clerk of Superior Court, Democrats are deciding whether Edgar Morris or Franchion (Kay) Robinson will face incumbent Republican John K. Deaton in the general election this fall.
Some state and federal races affecting Montgomery County are also on the primary ballot.
Regular polling places are open until 7:30 p.m., and questions about voting in Montgomery County can be directed to the Board of Elections office at 910-572-2024.
