Fiery crash closes Interstate for nearly six hours

Authorities have charged a driver with failure to reduce speed in an fiery crash Sat., May 17, on Interstate 73/74, just north of Montgomery County.

According to published reports, Timothy Samuel of Trinity was driving a tractor-trailer owned by Shuler Meats when he ran into the back of a truck being driven by Joshua Tate of Haw River. Samuel stopped his rig and exited the truck before it caught fire.

Tate’s vehicle was damaged by the fire, and he was trapped for while and then airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. His injuries were said to be “non-life threatening”.

The accident happened just after 4 p.m. Saturday near the interstate’s Seagrove exit. The highway was closed for nearly six hours following the crash.
