Renovated plant to process yogurt in Biscoe

Construction has begun on the new Carolina Dairy yogurt plant in Biscoe. The company is owned by Aseptia, the parent company of Wright Foods in Troy, and will located in a renovated 60,000 square foot facility in the Biscoe Industrial Park.

140519_Aseptia_LogoCompany officials told media the plant is expected to open in September, with production up and running by the end of the year. There is an anticipated initial need for about 50 employees, and about a hundred workers are expected to be in place by mid-2015.

Carolina Dairy will process yogurt from raw milk, and the company said it anticipates consuming about 5,000 gallons of milk a day at startup.

The Carolina Dairy project is being financed with money from a Community Development Block Grant and with additional funding from the Gold Leaf Foundation. Local and state tax credits are being offered in exchange for the creation of jobs.
