MegaPark closer to attracting industry as first site certified

The Heart of North Carolina MegaPark is closer to attracting new industry to the county. That’s the assessment of Ashley Sherrill Cagle, director of the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (EDC), who told the Triad Business Journal that a substantial tract in the proposed industrial park has received official certification.

The MegaPark is a 3,000-acre site east of Biscoe, near Interstate 73/74 and between Hwy. 24/27 and Spies Rd. About a third of the site is in Montgomery County, with the remainder in Moore County.

Cagle told the Journal that one key to the certification of a single 117-acre parcel within the MegaPark was an extension of sewer service provided by the Town of Biscoe and funded through an $800,000 grant from the Golden Leaf Foundation.

The site’s proximity to the Interstate and railroad are seen as two of its prime features, and it is believed the appeal of the location will continue to improve as utilities and other infrastructure become available.

The Heart of North Carolina MegaPark was established by a non-profit corporation headed by former EDC director Judy Stevens and is being developed jointly by the Montgomery County EDC and the Moore County Partners in Progress.
