Here are some upcoming events we’re talking about today on the air…

130502_WMTG_Community_Calendar—It’s the last week of class for students in Montgomery County Schools. Graduation exercises will be held Fri., Jun. 13, at West Montgomery High School and the Montgomery Learning Academy. East Montgomery will have graduation Sat., Jun. 14.

—The Eckerd youth and family services organization will honor a number of local folks this weekend at its “Children’s Hero of the Year” event. Eckerd operates Camp E Ku Su Mee in Candor, and the annual gala is a benefit to help support that effort. Nine local people will be honored for their contributions of time, talent and treasure to the youth of Montgomery County. The semi-formal event is set for Sat., Jun. 14, 6 to 9 p.m., at the James H. Garner Center in Troy. Tickets, tables and sponsorships are available from Eckerd Candor at 910-974-4183.

—Water aerobics classes are set to begin this week at the Armstrong Pool at Stanback Park in Mount Gilead. The schedule calls for classes to be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6 to 7 p.m., through the summer. Of course, classes will not be held in the event of stormy weather. More information is available from Town Hall at 910-439-5111.

—The U.S. Forest Service and N.C. Wildlife will sponsor a Kids Fishing Day, starting at 9 a.m., Sat., Jun. 14, at the King’s Mountain Point camping area on Badin Lake. It’s open to children age 13 and under, and information and adult volunteer opportunities are available from the Uwharrie National Forest Rangers Office at 910-576-6391.
