Riley Beaman of the Troy Fire Department told WMTG the Troy, Wadeville and Lake Tillery departments were on the scene yesterday, along with a crew from the North Carolina Forest Service. Beaman said Troy Chief Joe Huntley set up a drop tank for a water shuttle to keep a steady supply on hand, and heavy equipment was used to plow a fire line around the blaze, which was contained to the trash area.

After the fire was under control, it was left to landfill employees and their equipment for continued observation.
