A North Carolina company is planning to build five new cell phone towers in Montgomery County.
Durham Tower has applied for zoning permits to build the towers (four 250-foot structures, one 200-foot) in locations including Roper Grove Church Rd. between Mount Gilead and Wadeville, on N.C. Hwy. 24/27 between Troy and West Middle School, on River Rd., Abner Rd. and N.C. Hwy. 134 north of Troy.
Durham Tower is a third-party site acquisition and construction company that locates properties and erects towers for wireless communication providers. The five sites under consider must receive conditional use approval from the County Planning Board.
No information has been given as to which carriers might use the new facilities.
A similar 250-foot structure proposed for the Eldorado community received approval from the board last November, amid a contentious mix of objections and endorsement from local property owners and government officials. The Eldorado project does not involve Durham Tower.
A public hearing on the five new towers will be held Mon., Jun. 23, at 6 p.m. in the County Administration Building in Troy.
