Independence Day festivities planned in region

Anson County

The Uptown Wadesboro organization will host its Summer Jam festival Thu., Jul. 3. Food, vendors and children’s activities will be available, and The Tim Clark Band will play from 7 to 10 p.m. A fireworks show will start at 10 p.m. Summer Jam is on E. Wade St. in Wadesboro.

Richmond County

The Town of Hamlet will have its Fourth of July Fun Day from 5 to 9 p.m. Fri., Jul. 4. Live music, a watermelon eating contest, kids games and other activities will be held at the Hamlet Depot and at the nearby Main Street Park. A fireworks show will start at 9 p.m.

Stanly County

The Town of Oakboro continues a decades-long tradition of celebrating the Fourth with a week of festivities. The event opened Jul. 1 with music and rides on the midway, and The Embers featuring Craig Woolard will play at 8:30 p.m. tonight (Jul. 2)

A firefighter’s competition is set for Jul. 3 at 6:30 p.m., and activities on Fri., Jul. 4, include a parade at 9 a.m. and music from Atlantic Groove at 8:30 p.m.

The Entertainers will play Saturday night, and fireworks shows will be presented Friday and Saturday nights at 11:30.

Overall, the Oakboro Fourth of July Festival continues to run 6 to 11:30 p.m. tonight and tomorrow, then 9 a.m. to midnight Friday, and 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday. A full schedule is available below.

  1. July 5th, Mt. Gilead Music Barn has Nu-Highway Bluegrass Band at 7:30 pm and free food
    from 6–7:15 pm with paid addmission.
