130502_WMTG_Community_Calendar— Town Creek Indian Mound will celebrate its founding archaeologist with Dr. Coe’s Birthday Bash, today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the State Historic Site just east of Mount Gilead. — Driveline Bluegrass Band with Jim Sanders will be at the Mount Gilead Music Barn tonight. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. More information online at

— The Montgomery County Public Library’s summer reading program continues next week with programs on electricity Monday at 10 a.m., flames and explosion Tuesday at 10 a.m., and wild animal encounters Thursday at 10 and 11:30 a.m. All of next week’s programs will be at Biscoe Community Center, and all kids are invited. — The film “Stomping Ground”, produced in the Uwharrie National Forest, will have its local premiere Wed., Jul. 16, at the James Garner Center in Troy. It’s suitable for ages 18 and up. Seating is limited, and tickets will be available Jul. 14 & 15, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, from the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, 444 N. Main St., Troy. Details at 910-572-4300.

— The Montgomery Senior Center will have its monthly prayer breakfast Fri., Jul. 18, at 8:30 a.m., with guest speaker Rev. Jimmy Shirlen. All seniors age 55 and up are invited. RSVP at 910-572-4464.

— The West Montgomery Boosters Club will host a fund raising golf tournament Fri., July 18, at Denson’s Creek Golf Course in Troy. Registration and sponsorships are available at 910-572-8862.

— The Town of Candor will host the North Carolina Peach Festival next weekend, with food, vendors, music and other entertainment. The festival will be Sat., Jul. 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Peachy Feet 5K will kick off the festival Fri., Jul. 18. Information is available at 910-974-4221.
