The State Historic Site just east of Mount Gilead plans a celebration to mark the occasion, with hands-on activities, games and tours of the reconstructed village from 1 to 5 p.m. this Sun., Aug. 3.

Town Creek is calling it a “Sundae Fun-day”, and Chappell’s Homemade Ice Cream will be available throughout the afternoon.

Site manager Rich Thompson said staff are “excited to welcome the public back on Sundays.” The day was removed from the site’s operating schedule in May 2013 as a cost-saving measure.

Thompson said, “It’s important for Town Creek to be open on one of the two days each week that most families are available for recreation and travel.”

Town Creek is the state’s only historic site dedicated to American Indian heritage, and is now open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, 1 to 5 p.m., closed Mondays and most major holidays.
