Word has surfaced that a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan has applied for and been granted a permit for a rally in Troy this Saturday.
The Greensboro News and Record reported that the KKK group asked the Troy Police Department for the permit “to rally against immigration”.
The paper says the permit was requested July 11 and quotes Troy Police Chief Kenny Allen as saying the permit was issued, but the organization had not picked it up as of Aug. 5. The deadline to do so is 10 a.m. Friday.
The permit allows up to 200 people to gather at the Montgomery County Courthouse, Sat., Aug. 9, at 4 p.m.
The KKK is also reported to be planning a private event Saturday in the Davidson County town of Welcome. Advocates for immigrants and the gay and lesbian community are said to be preparing for counter-protests in Welcome.
