45-year-old Ryan Anthony Efird entered a plea of guilty to the first-degree murder of Roger Gibson, the 81-year-old owner of B & G Coins in Albemarle. Efird shot and killed Gibson in his West Albemarle store Oct. 31, 2013, took some coins, and then fled the scene in Gibson’s pickup truck.

Part of the scene was captured on the security camera of a nearby business, helping investigators identify and capture Efird last November.

The plea deal means Efird avoided the possibility of the death penalty, which could have been pursued since he had previously been convicted of felony breaking and entering.
