Trinity Music Academy will host musicians from around the world this weekend for a concert celebrating composer-in-residence Sophia Pavlenko.
The program entitled “Sophia Pavlenko and Friends” marks the 13th anniversary at Trinity for the Ukrainian-born composer. Musicians joining in the celebration will come from all across North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Paris and Munich.
The program will feature selections for orchestra, piano, pipe organ, instrumental ensembles and voice. The cast includes the voices of John Fowler, tenor, and Christine Weidinger, soprano — described as “two of the finest voices that the southern U.S. has ever produced” — and North Carolina violinist Yung Shee.
These and many others will perform with the TMA Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Paul Chandley, who will also be playing the Clara Capel Memorial Pipe Organ. Pavlenko will perform with almost everyone throughout the evening on the grand piano once owned by renowned composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church, 239 N. Russell St., Troy. Tickets, information and reservations are available at 910-572-2583.
