FORT WORTH, Texas (contributed) — Montgomery Economic Development Corporation received a Silver Excellence in Economic Development Award for its 2014 Heart of NC MegaPark project in the category of Partnerships with Educational Institutions for communities with populations of 25,000 – 200,000 from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
The honor was presented at an awards ceremony on Mon., Oct. 20, during the IEDC Annual Conference, running Oct. 19-22, in Fort Worth, Texas.
“Economic development efforts have long been a keystone in the quest to bolster the economy and improve quality of life in every locality across the country,” said Bill Sproull, IEDC chair. “As the nation continues to tackle challenges in the midst of global uncertainty, these efforts have taken on an even greater significance. With this award, we laud trendsetting organizations like Montgomery Economic Development Corporation for leading the charge.”
A joint project of Moore and Montgomery counties in North Carolina, this is a 3,000 acre, fully-optioned industrial park located in the geographic center of North Carolina. The park sits between two interchanges of Interstate 73/74, with four-lane N.C. Highway 24/27 as the southern border and railroad by the Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway Company as the northern border. The project is managed by the Executive Directors of each county’s respective Economic Development Organization and is governed by a board of directors comprised of public and private representatives also from both counties.
