In explaining his vision for the work of local police, Vieux said, “As the new police chief for the Town of Mount Gilead, I’m expecting the Mount Gilead Police Department to be organized and focused on accomplishing (our) basic mission. We shall reduce the level of fear crimes in the Town of Mount Gilead.”

Vieux continued, “Our measure of success will not be the number the arrests. Our measure of success will not be the number of traffic citations issued.”

“Our measure of success will be the response time to non-emergency calls. Our measure of success will be the reduction of crime and making a safe place to raise your children and (for the) citizens of Mount Gilead.”

Chief Vieux is a 17-year law enforcement veteran and was most recently a lieutenant with the Enfield Police Department in northeastern North Carolina.
