A local non-profit organization is receiving a project grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The NEA announced Dec. 2 that Central Park NC will receive a $10,000 grant to support its two-day “Firefest” event at STARworks in Star.

Organizers say Firefest provides an opportunity for the public to engage with some of the best-known national and international artists working in ceramics, glass and metal arts to create sculpture. Under the theme “Community Fueled Art”, the public is invited to watch as guest artists create and install sculpture. In addition to sculpture projects, each day will feature demonstrations, lectures and hands-on art programming activities by invited artists, and other local and guest artists.

Central Park NC is one of only 163 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Challenge America grant this year.

Firefest is scheduled for April 3 and 4. More information is available at http://www.starworksnc.org.
