A Mount Gilead minister remains hospitalized following an automobile accident Tue., Dec. 30.

Sources say First Baptist Church pastor Roger Thomas was traveling from Salisbury to Albemarle when his car started shaking and ran off the road near the Cabarrus County line. He was trapped in the vehicle for an estimated 20 minutes before help arrived.

Thomas was transported to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Concord, then to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, for treatment of a broken back, leg, jaw and ribs.

Roger Thomas lives in Albemarle and has been at First Baptist Church in Mount Gilead since 2012, first as an interim minister, and now as the church’s permanent part-time pastor. He is executive director of Stanly Community Christian Ministries in Albemarle and also the movie critic for the Stanly News & Press.
